MEET OUR TEAM
Justin Leach
CEO & Founder
Justin founded Qubic pictures in 2013 when he created the industry’s first crowdfunded anime with Production I.G called “Kick-Heart”. After the success of that project, Justin went on to help produce several notable titles. In 2018, Justin sold his original idea to Netflix called “Eden” to become Netflix’s first wholly owned anime original. After Eden was produced by Qubic, Justin was hired by Lucasfilm to help produce a groundbreaking anthology series called “Star Wars: Visions'' working with Japan’s top animation creators. Justin’s passion for telling stories continues with a new unannounced 12 episode series for Netflix where he currently serves as showrunner. Justin continues to grow the company to meet the rapid demand for creating high quality content. |

Now with virtual production and real-time rendering, we’re back to fascinating tales where visuals are the supporting universe as opposed to the main performance. On the everyday scale, social platforms from Instagram to TikTok have given all of us the opportunity to share our own storytelling with a global audience. Especially in a divided pandemic world, these stories have been a transformative power teaching us how to see the world in a new light.

Kanako Shirasaki
Head of Production / Producer
As head of production, Kanako is responsible for producing Qubic Pictures’ growing animation lineup with the talented Qubic team and our international partners. Her journey with Qubic started in fall 2017 with one text message from Justin, which eventually bore fruit as Netflix’s original anime series EDEN. Her current projects include Star Wars: Visions, an upcoming animated anthology series.
|
Her passion for arts led her to move to NY to complete a master’s degree in public relations and corporate communications from NYU. As a program administrator at Japan Foundation, New York, she facilitated numerous cultural events such as film retrospectives for director Seijun Suzuki across 15 cities in partnership with the Smithsonian’s Freer and Sackler Galleries and screening events with legendary actor Tatsuya Nakadai at the Museum of Moving Image.
Katrina Minett
Producer
Hailing from the UK, Katrina (Kat) Minett is a multilingual producer based in Tokyo with previous experience working in one of Japan’s most prolific animation studios. Titles she has worked on include Odd Taxi, Major Second, and the upcoming Netflix release of Bee and Puppycat. Influenced by her own multicultural family, Kat felt the importance of communication and understanding, and strives to use her linguistic skills - coupled with a love of Japanese media - to bring together a wide variety of people, ideas, and art styles on various projects.
|
Currently working with Qubic as both a producer and a cultural bridge, Kat is excited to share her knowledge and experience working in Japanese animation companies with the world and is putting her talents to use on several upcoming titles!
